11 Car Rental Brands at Newcastle Airport (NCL)

Whilst the car was as expected and the counter staff were polite, we were forced due to Green Motion not being able to process our credit card for pre authorisation to purchase insurance that was more than the cost of the rental. We witnessed another customer suffer the same fate, which made us think it was a bit of a scam. Will not use Green Motion again.

The worst service ever! Had to wait approx. half an hour at the counter with a little baby despite of having only one person in front. Overcharged for a minor damage to a wheel I do not remember making. It took another half an hour to return the car, despite of being the only customer.

I have experienced Europcar before, they advertise a nice car and then usually offer a substantially lower model as the or similar e.g. this year I rented a Kashqai and got a Renault Kajar, last year a Merc E class and got a Volvo V90 and so on, I will try to avoid them in future as its an obvious sales tactic. I upgraded to a Merc C class that was good.

Vehicle was very good. Communications with AVIS was very difficult (following picking up car). I wished to extend the period of hire with AVIS but this proved impossible as I was unable to contact the Newcastle airport branch via the telephone.

Pre-check prior to hire was not rigourous enough - this resulted in me being charged for stowed tyre inflator. This was apparently missing on my returning the van. So it was missing when I drove the vehicle off - unbeknown to me. For stowed (therefore hidden) parts, rental companies should have checklist of items renters need to check before leaving the forecourt. Wholly unreasonable for hire companies to expect renters to have mental list of all hidden equipment (spare tyre, jack, high viz jacket, triangle etc etc) that they need to check before leaving so that they do not get charged excesses on return! I contested this with Hertz and they waived the charge fortunately. But unpleasant.

Landing at NCL with 6 people, 1 with a child seat, it's not too convenient for the driver to go to the Ponteland office then drive back to collect everyone. Why not bring the car to the airport?

Terrible attitude, especially since the location is far from the airport. We had to wait an hour after arriving at the airport and could only contact them through Hertz's staff. It was even worse on the return trip; a small scratch on the front bumper required compensation forms, which took almost an hour to fill out because both an employee and the boss couldn't find the forms. This nearly caused us to miss our flight. After protesting, they even threatened us to get a taxi ourselves (our luggage was already in the car ready for drop-off). This scared my son, who didn't understand why I was fighting for my rights! Awful service.

Like: Picking up the car was painless, I was expecting lots of paperwork and hassle but this was not the case. I was dealt with in a friendly manner and very efficiently. Would highly recommend. The vehicle I was given was superb and tempted to buy one now
