The car condition was very poor, with the engine light turning on at one point during the trip. The rental company claimed to have WeChat, but in reality, they only had WhatsApp. Without WhatsApp, it was impossible to get in touch, and they kept shifting the blame. I did not receive any phone calls or emails regarding the confirmation of the return time. When I wanted to return the car early, the customer service directly said it was not allowed. I told them I wouldn't make my flight, and they responded with no solution and a very bad attitude. Additionally, due to high temperatures, the battery and engine warning lights kept flashing. When I called the rental company, they insisted I send them a video via WhatsApp for verification. So, does that mean without WhatsApp, there's no way to communicate with you?

This car rental experience in Dubai was the biggest disappointment of the entire trip, and by far the most bizarre and terrible incident I've encountered in over a decade of renting cars abroad. Here's a brief summary of the whole ordeal:
Two days before picking up the car, we confirmed the pickup time and location with the rental company's customer service. However, on the day of the scheduled pickup, the driver was extremely late. While we were waiting endlessly and questioned the customer service, they kept stalling with various excuses, from 'he'll be there in 10 minutes' to '20 minutes' to 'he's on the way,' and finally, the driver arrived two hours late with no sense of remorse. To make matters worse, the car's fuel tank was nearly empty upon handover. This massive delay completely disrupted our schedule for the day, and as a result, the tickets we had purchased in advance were wasted.
We thought this unpleasant pickup experience was the end of the trouble, but the drop-off process turned out to be even worse! Again trusting the customer service, we agreed on a time and location for returning the car, and they promised the driver would be punctual. However, when the time came, no one showed up. Attempts to contact customer service failed as they became unreachable! It was already late at night, and after waiting two hours in vain, we left a message and went to sleep. Upon waking up, we found there was still no response from them! Eventually, we managed to track down their office personnel by any means possible. The staff on that end told us to drive the car to their office ourselves, saying it's 'just 5 minutes away,' but the location they gave us turned out to be a 30-minute drive! Barely containing our frustration, we drove to return the car, only to find that the address they sent us was also incorrect! We ended up using the internet to search for the car rental company name and finally located their office to return the vehicle. Throughout this entire debacle, the rental company never once apologized—not even once!
Based on this experience, here's a summary of the key issues:
Issue #1: The staff has no concept of time and frequently lies.
Issue #2: Poor internal communication with inconsistent information. This rental company assigned three separate parties to communicate with us—customer service listed in the booking, the delivery driver, and their so-called operations team. However, these three parties had zero coordination, leaving us with conflicting information, unsure of whom to believe. Person A would say, '10 minutes,' Person B would claim they couldn’t locate the address, and Person C would say Person A was lying but didn’t know when the driver would arrive either. Are these three even from the same company?
Issue #3: The rental company is clueless about their own dispatch information. On the pickup day, when we asked for basic details like the car's license plate, model, or color to help us locate it more easily, the customer service simply replied, 'You'll see it when it gets there.' Is this supposed to be a valid response? Are your customer service reps completely disconnected from the booking system?
In short, avoid DRIVUS at all costs unless they undergo a significant transformation. Otherwise, spare other travelers this nightmare.

The service at the car rental counter, provided by an Indian staff member, took an extraordinarily long time overall. I waited for 20 minutes just to rent the car, and the staff member displayed a poor attitude, using sarcastic tones in English. Additionally, when making the payment, they asked me to pay the rental fee again. Only after double-checking the charges did I discover the duplicate payment. If I hadn't checked carefully, I might have paid this additional charge along with the insurance fee and deposit. Does this company treat every customer this way, just betting that not everyone will scrutinize the charges? This approach is particularly dishonest toward people who are not fluent in English or those who tend to be careless. When returning the car, even though I had confirmed my arrival time in advance, I still had to wait for 30 minutes at the counter for a driver to inspect the vehicle. I repeatedly mentioned that I had a flight to catch, but no urgency was shown. There was another foreign woman in a similar situation—also waiting for half an hour. Every time we asked the staff for updates, they would tell us to wait another five minutes. Those 'five minutes' accumulated into 30 minutes of waiting. Overall, I do not recommend this rental company. I’ve rented cars three times in Dubai and four times in Saudi Arabia, and this was by far the worst service experience.

Our first experience with driving abroad was quite good. We followed the advice and bought full insurance. For our group of 4 adults and 2 children, we booked a 7-seater Kia Carnival, and the actual vehicle provided was exactly the same—brand new. Most parking lots in Dubai are free; we didn't pay any parking fees. To be cautious, I double-checked each time to confirm it was free. The toll fees were very cheap. We traveled from Dubai to Palm Jumeirah, then to BAB, Abu Dhabi, and Anantara, and finally back to Dubai, with a total toll cost of only 15.75 AED. The deposit was refunded after about three weeks.

I rented a Kia MPV but was given a compact SUV, which even had engine issues. ③ For all practical purposes, it’s like forced one-way rental. When I booked, I opted to return the car at Dubai Mall, but when I picked up the car, they claimed this was my own selection mistake. However, there was no such address, and they gave me an alternative location in the city, which turned out to be more like the suburbs—not much better than returning it to the airport.

The car rental experience with Auto Union in Dubai was extremely poor. The app stated that there would be a person holding a sign at the airport for pick-up, but upon arrival, there was no one in sight. When I called the rental company, my first call went unanswered. It wasn't until my second call that I was told someone would come to pick me up. The person who came to pick me up could not speak English clearly and asked me to contact him via WhatsApp. We finally met more than an hour later than the scheduled time. Additionally, besides the 2400 AED deposit, I was charged an extra 640 AED for the car rental, even though I had already prepaid through the app. The fuel tank only had two marks of fuel when I received the car, and I wasn't informed about refueling requirements until I persistently inquired via WhatsApp. Very unprofessional. When it was time to return the car, we had agreed on a time of 8 PM at the airport parking lot, but the person was almost an hour late and also had poor English communication skills. On March 27, I noticed during reimbursement that the rental company had charged an additional 26 AED to my credit card on March 24 without any notice. The charge was under the name Golden Key Rent a Car, which did not match the company name. Terrible experience!

Dubai Airport has 3 terminals, with most international flights arriving at T3. Most car rental companies have counters at T3 and T1, but PAYLESS only has a counter at T1. You need to take the shuttle bus between terminals, which can be inconvenient for those who are not fluent in English or have little experience traveling abroad. T1 is an older terminal with unclear rental car signs. PAYLESS’s counter is the least visible, located at the very end of all car rental counters. The most disappointing thing was that the car pickup point is at A2 in the parking building. All car rental companies have a counter here, but PAYLESS’s counter is always empty, and customers have to call to get service. During my car pickup, there was miscommunication—the staff initially told me to go to the second floor in A2, but later said to go to the right exit lane outside the terminal building. It was very confusing. With my pickup slip in hand, I went to the address marked at A2, but there was no one there. Other companies’ staff kindly told me to call PAYLESS. After three calls and a 25-minute wait, someone finally brought the car from the basement, which they said took time. The car inspection was thorough but they didn’t mention whether the car used gasoline or diesel, and I forgot to ask. The service staff later told me it was likely gasoline. The car manual was thicker than a dictionary and all in English, so I didn’t bother reading it. I took a chance and pumped gasoline. After the handover, I found they didn't give me the parking ticket and had to chase them for it. At the exit, they charged me 15 AED for parking, which should have been covered by the rental company as part of the rental fee, but they insisted. During the return process, I was at T3 for departure, so I unloaded my friends, children, and luggage, and then drove to T1’s A2 area. No one was there. After multiple desperate calls, they kept saying someone would come in various time frames but took 30 minutes. The car inspection guy took his time, examining every part of the car for about 8 minutes before signing the inspection sheet. He didn't give me a copy, so I took a photo with my phone. When I mentioned the 15 AED charge, he cluelessly said it shouldn't be charged and that was it. After confirming multiple times that all return procedures were ok, I rushed to catch the shuttle bus. On a side note, it was raining that day, which is rare in Dubai’s desert climate. I had to stand in the open parking lot in the rain while they slowly inspected the car. This was the most frustrating rental experience of my life. I hope the rare rain in Dubai not only washes the city's glamorous facade but also cleanses their hearts.

I have not received my deposit so I cannot comment on that aspect but its still early days. After some flaffling about they found my booking and received car faily quick. Because I arrived at 3am the directions to head to in terminal counter were incorrect as they are stationed in the early hours in car park area with other rental car firms inside Europcar office. All in all pleased with Interrent.

I have to admit that everything was ok from the booking process to the price and the process at the Europcar first counter next to the arrivals which they said that the car should be ready in 15 mins. So we went on to exchange money and get wifi service which took some time. By the time we went to pick up the person told us 30 mins. and after that he went adding until 2 1/2 hrs later we got the car and it was after midnight which I believe it counts as the next day (or at least if you return it after midnight some companies would've charged you a whole day). So that made our experience a not pleasant one.
